Milwaukee and Chicago dip in May

With the Milwaukee and Chicago PMIs releases today, a view of how manufacturers did in May compared to April can be made. An observation on contracting or expansion can also be made for each.

Chicago: 46.2 from 52.3 (DOWN - CONTRACTING)
Milwaukee: 47.7 from 48.08 (DOWN - CONTRACTING)

Dallas: -20.8 from -16 (DOWN - CONTRACTING)

Richmond: 1 from -3 (UP - EXPANDING)

Philadelphia: 6.7 from 7.5 (DOWN - EXPANDING)

Empire: 3.09 from -1.19 (UP - EXPANDING)

So overall, there were 4 indices which were lower in May vs. April. There were three regions which were still contracting and 3 that were expanding.

Below is a graph of the trends. Overall, the graphs show more weakness vs strength vs recent data. Also compared to May of last year, all the indices are at lower level.
